Renovated Art & History Museum in Brussels: New 19th and 20th Century Art Collections Await in Updated Exhibition Rooms

Three exhibition rooms at the Art & History Museum, located in the Cinquantenaire park in Brussels, recently renovated under the direction of the Régie des Bâtiments, are now ready to welcome art collections from the 19th and 20th centuries.

Thus, from October 6, a temporary exhibition dedicated to the Austrian architect and designer Josef Hauffman will be held in the largest of the three modernized rooms.

“The renovations were carried out in order to optimize the sustainability of the building while respecting its exceptional character,” declared Mathieu Michel, Secretary of State in charge of the Régie des Bâtiments about this investment of around 2 million euros. .

The work took place from March 2021 to May 2022. During this time, the coatings on the ceiling and walls of the rooms were restored and everything was repainted. The parquet floor was also treated and the skylight in the largest exhibition room was fitted with new laminated glazing. In addition, new interior metal carpentry was installed and the exterior carpentry was restored and repainted. The exhibition spaces are now also equipped with sustainable lighting and heating and ventilation systems. New techniques have been integrated throughout, in order to maintain the original appearance as much as possible.
