Major General Muhammad Salah Abu Hamila, Secretary-General of the Republican People’s Party, said: The supreme body of the Republican People’s Party finished its convening today, Saturday, and agreed among themselves regarding the party’s presidential candidate.
And the Supreme Commission decided to approve the minutes of the General Secretariat dated July 5, 2023, with the result of counting the votes for the secret ballot of the party’s organizational and parliamentary leaders, by a majority of votes that agreed to push a presidential candidate from the party to compete for the position of President of the Republic in the pluralistic presidential elections and to authorize the Supreme Commission to select the candidate.
The statement indicated that Hazem Muhammad Suleiman Omar, head of the party and head of the Foreign, Arab and African Affairs Committee in the Senate, was assigned to run for the elections for the position of President of the Republic, as an exclusive candidate for the Republican People’s Party and fulfilling the conditions stipulated in Articles 141, 142 of the first branch of Chapter Two of the constitution.
The statement indicated that the party decided to form a temporary special secretariat to follow up and supervise organizational, financial and administrative affairs, publicity affairs, and press and media coverage of the presidential election campaign of the party’s presidential candidate.
