Rescues man stranded on burning Greek coast; 11 missing, 20feb2022

Athens: A passenger ship that caught fire off the Greek coast rescues a passenger stranded on the Euroferry Olympia. A 21-year-old Belarusian truck driver has been rescued following being trapped in the back of a ship.

11 people might not be found. Efforts for this are ongoing. The missing are lorry drivers from Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey and Lithuania. The ship was carrying 292 people, including passengers and crew. Of these, 281 have been rescued so far. The rescuers were brought to Corfu Island. There were 153 trucks and 32 cars on board.

The ship caught fire on Friday morning off the Greek coast on its way to Brindisi, Italy, from the Greek port of Egomenitza. The cars on board were on fire, which is believed to be the cause of the accident.
