Research Reveals Poor Oral Hygiene Can Affect Mental Health

Studies carried out by scientists have shown that poor oral health can have a significant impact on mental health, this is due to different factors, such as physical discomfort and the social stigma related to having a bad oral appearance.

Dental problems can be painful and can lead to anxiety and stress. When there is chronic pain such as that caused by oral diseases, people can become depressed, due to the constant discomfort, which is generally suffered by those who are older adults or have disabilities that prevent them from taking care of themselves properly.

Many people often feel embarrassed regarding their poor oral health, fear socializing with others, and as a result may isolate and have feelings of loneliness that put them at risk of developing serious mental problems such as severe anxiety or bipolar disorder.

In this sense, it is important to maintain proper dental hygiene to prevent future problems related to mental and physical health that may affect emotional well-being.
