The eIDAS regulation sets the rules for electronic ID cards and should make it possible in the future, for example, to use an electronic passport instead of the traditional printed copy. Now experts, including many from Austria, are massively criticizing the plans and issuing a warning open letter against possible surveillance of every single EU citizen by each of the 27 EU states. A total of 328 researchers from all over the world and 19 data protection organizations find very clear words for the regulation on electronic identity within the EU.
