Started by Capcom in 2019 with Resident Evil 2, the waltz of remakes then continued with Resident Evil 3 then Resident Evil 4, three episodes brought up to date which were a great success with fans of the license who still hope that other episodes will be entitled to the same treatment. This is good since the Japanese developer intends to continue on this path.

Want more Resident Evil Remakes? No problem

This is no longer a speculation, but a confirmation coming straight from the main person concerned. The Japanese firm, which also wears the hat of publisher, gave an interview to our colleagues at IGN during the ceremony of PlayStation Partner Awardsheld this Friday, December 1, 2023.

On this occasion, the editorial team asked the question that everyone was waiting for: does Capcom want to add other remakes to its successes? The answer was affirmative. Yasuhiro Anpo, director of Resident Evil 4 Remake, said:

Yes. We have released three remakes so far and they have all been very well received. Since this allows a modern audience to play these games, it’s something I’m happy to do as a fan of these older games, and we want to continue making more of them.

We would like to announce in the future which game we are going to remake, so please wait a little longer.

We are very grateful to users who share their opinions with us. This allows us to develop the game taking into account player feedback. Like, if that’s how the players feel, maybe we can do it a certain way. I think that’s one of the reasons why our remakes are so well received.

Players appreciate Capcom’s work

In terms of numbers, Resident Evil 2 Remake (January 2019) has sold 13.1 million copies according to the last tally last September, which is more than any other entry in the series and which also makes it the third best-selling game in Capcom history.

Available since March of this year, Resident Evil 4 Remake has reached the mark of five million units sold faster than any other game in the series since Resident Evil 5, released in 2009, which is the third best-selling game in the franchise to date.

What will be the next opus to be the subject of a Remake? While many rumors have often mentioned Resident Evil 5, fans have been asking for Code Verocina for a long time. Will they finally be heard? The bets are open.
