In Brussels, residents of the squares district challenged the municipality. They are opposed to the possible granting of planning permission for a large real estate project. The reason ? The project in question would lead to the disappearance of around ten century-old trees. The residents of the neighborhood consider this project too big and destructive, we can read on the site of BX1.

Opponents of the project also add that it is not consistent with the city’s objectives to preserve biodiversity. They are therefore opposed to the possible granting of planning permission. Construction would take place inside the block.

On the owners’ side, the tone is intended to be reassuring, “from the start, we specified in the consultation committee that only the trees necessary for the implementation of the project will be felled, i.e. 3 including 2 in less good health, and that 13 new trees will be planted,” reports BX1. The college has until December to decide.
