Respiratory Virus Report, Week 18: Ending May 6, 2023

In week 18 (ending May 6, 2023) in Canada, SSDVR participating laboratories reported 3,462 SARS-CoV-2 detections out of 35,349 tests (9.8% positive). Among respiratory viruses other than SARS-CoV-2, where testing volumes are lower (range 5,566 to 19,542 tests), almost all virus activity is within or below expected levels .

• Influenza activity remains low at inter-seasonal levels.
  • Influenza B activity (352 detections; 1.8% positive) remains slightly higher than that of influenza A (96 detections; 0.5% positive), but both remain below expected levels.
• Activity of all respiratory viruses other than SARS-CoV-2 is near or below expected levels for this time of year.
• Number of laboratories that reported the situation: 34 out of 35
