“This situation gives me the opportunity to respond to the lies of those who have tried to tarnish my name, to clarify that in none of the electoral processes in which I have submitted my name for consideration by democracy have I resorted to any irregular practice,” he stated. the congressman through a statement.

According to the investigation, the result of a copy check carried out by the Investigative Chamber last November, the criminal organization allegedly provided political support to the Name family.

The case is in the office of Judge Héctor Alarcón and due to these events there is also a preliminary investigation against Senator José David Name, of the U Party, which was opened on November 27. This process is in the office of Judge Marco Antonio Rueda.

The investigation is supported by the testimonies of two demobilized members of the Córdoba Block of the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC). These are aliases Brayan and alias Pistón, who linked Name and his family to Los Rastrojos Costeños in the Atlantic.

“Until about two months ago, campaigns were carried out (…) in certain sectors of the neighborhoods of Barranquilla due to the presence that we had in the neighborhoods (…) we got people to vote for them and today “They are senators and today one is president of Congress (sic),” revealed “Pistón” in the middle of an investigation before the 48th Specialized Prosecutor’s Office against Organized Crime.

Last July, –against the interests of Gustavo Petro’s government and in a true neck-to-neck–, Name won the Presidency of the Senate from his co-partisan Angélica Lozano, of the Green Alliance.

The president of the Senate is the nephew of the late coastal political chief and also president of the Senate, José David Name Terán, and is the cousin of today’s senator David Name (La U). He built his political career in the capital and not in Barranquilla, where the family has business on several fronts, including with the State.

“I am part of the third generation of senators in my family who has been between the columns of the Capitol. And I say this with pride, because none of them have been arrested, nor can it be said of those three generations that there is any shame noted. Success is sometimes not forgiven by human beings in others, so possibly for some that does not constitute a pride, but a defect,” Name Vásquez stated at the time.

In 2022, La Liga Contra el Silencio revealed that the Names appeared allegedly linked to the Costa Cartel, a criminal organization linked to drug trafficking. The journalistic alliance dusted off papers from the Prosecutor’s Office from the end of the century that would involve the brothers José and David Name Terán (Iván Name’s uncles) with “activities related to drug trafficking, front men and money laundering.” Added to this are cables from the United States Embassy in which the deceased José Name Terán was linked “to a trafficker from the Coast.”
