Restoration of Historic Rose Windows: Meticulous Work and Preservation Efforts

2024-01-30 04:14:00

A necessary makeover for three rose windows, victims of time and years: their central part was torn off by violent winds for two of them and the leads torn off weakening the good support of the stained glass window with risk of glass falling for the third . At the end of October, a platform was installed to carry out painting work following water infiltration on the choir ceiling. With the agreement of the town hall, project manager and the company responsible for the restoration, the Friends of Heritage association, chaired by Nicole Garras, was able to take advantage of this particular scaffolding to restore the rose windows and above all avoid a cost additional to the association to access the stained glass windows.

Meticulous work

Thanks to this platform which reached 8.5 m high, Vincent Gallegno, stained glass craftsman, dismantled and reassembled the stained glass windows. The restoration took place in his workshop: complete creation of the central stained glass window, stripping and cleaning of the stained glass windows, replacement of broken painted glass, re-leading, puttying of the stained glass windows on both sides for better insulation and replacement of the stained glass windows with lime sealing. The total cost of the operation is €8,783 financed by the Friends of Heritage association thanks to memberships, subsidies, donations and activities carried out with the aim of preserving local heritage.
