Police and justice suspect Taghi of continuing to run his criminal network from prison, which is why his contact with the outside world has been restricted. The director of Vught prison (ebi), the most secure in the Netherlands, has reduced the number of visitors. He is now allowed one visitor at a time and three in total per hour of visit. Before, he could receive three visitors at a time.

Youssef Taghi, Ridouan’s cousin, was sentenced at the beginning of the year to 5 and a half years in prison for having acted as an intermediary for the latter with the outside world. Inez Weski, Ridouan’s former lawyer, is also suspected of playing the same role. Ridouan Taghi had appealed against this measure of restrictions on his visitors before the Council for the application of sentences and the protection of youth (RSJ), denying the use of coded language.

A request which was rejected by the institution on the basis of the GRIP report which suspects the use of codes in the exchanges between Taghi and the members of his family during the visits. The latter spoke in low voices or too loudly and the conversations were sometimes confused or in other languages, according to the report. Allegations rejected by Taghi who asked to listen to the recordings of these exchanges.

As a reminder, Ridouan Taghi is considered the alleged leader of the Mocro Maffia, the Moroccan mafia active in the Netherlands and suspected of being involved in several assassinations in the country, including that of lawyer Derk Wiersum in 2019. Taghi and 16 other suspects are in the dock in the Marengo trial, which has been open since 2020. They are accused of a series of murders and attempted murders.
