Plans to restructure Embracer still affected Crystal Dynamics employees. The studio experienced a wave of layoffs, as a result of which 10 people lost their jobs: 9 of them were involved in brand development and marketing and 1 in IT. The employees themselves were the first to report the incident on social networks. Crystal Dynamics later confirmed the layoffs in an official statement. Previously, similar cuts were made including Beamdog (Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition) and Rainbow Studios (MX vs. ATV Unleashed), as well as Gearbox Publishing. In addition, Volition, known for Saints Row and Red Faction, closed down. Plaion will continue to develop both series. Let us remember that Crystal Dynamics is currently working on a new part of the adventures of Lara Croft (New Tomb Raider) and a reboot of Perfect Dark (2023), which is also being developed by The Initiative. In June, studio management assured that events within Embracer would not affect partnership agreements and the development of new projects.
