Retaining and Attracting Talents in Hong Kong: Insights from a Recent Survey

Although the Hong Kong government has introduced a number of measures to retain and attract talents in recent years, a survey by Robert Walters Hong Kong found that more than half of professionals still plan to leave Hong Kong, 15.6% of professionals hope to leave as soon as possible, and 36.7% of professionals plan to leave Hong Kong as soon as possible. Leave Hong Kong in the next 3 to 5 years. Among professionals planning to leave Hong Kong, 51% are between the ages of 27 and 42, and 38% are between the ages of 43 and 58.

The survey shows that 96% of professionals who plan to leave Hong Kong have already taken strategic actions to prepare for working abroad. The most common strategy is to work for a multinational company, with 60% of respondents adopting this strategy. On the other hand, 40% of the respondents who plan to leave Hong Kong have already applied for overseas jobs, and 31% have started training and studying for overseas jobs.

John Mullally points out that if employers want to retain top talent in a time of economic uncertainty, they need to understand employee expectations. “Moving abroad is not an easy decision, and if Hong Kong professionals want to gain international experience to advance their careers or broaden their horizons, there are employers who can help them achieve this.”

The survey interviewed 107 Hong Kong professionals, covering different fields such as accounting and finance, engineering and development, financial services, healthcare, human resources, legal and compliance, sales and marketing, supply chain, logistics and procurement, technology and transformation wait.
