Retrobatch 2 brings shortcuts, AI resizing and more

For some time now, we have been talking here about Retrobatch, batch image processor with artificial intelligence capabilities, which allows editing commands to be executed on multiple images simultaneously. The application has now gained a second version, with some features added that will further increase its usability.

In terms of interface, the app now has a command bar, as well as the Acorn — from the same developer, Flying Meat Software — and with a dark mode. There’s also native support for Acorn layered images and screenshots, as well as larger previews of whatever you’re editing, just select the content and press the spacebar to display the image properties and the larger preview appears.

When it comes to features, there are a good number of new features in Retrobatch 2 compared to the previous version. One of them is a new image resizing function that uses an AI model, allowing you to assign dimensions up to 4x larger when compared to the original size. The generated files are also lighter, without compromising quality.

Another change was the replacement of the old photo library with an export feature. The new mode is more refined and allows you to export images from the Photos app (Photos) or iCloud in original resolution, including in RAW format, being able to transform them into HEIC or even distributing them in several folders. You can also export the selfies and edit them.

We also support the Shortcuts app (Shortcuts), allowing you to create workflows with multiple images or even capture the screen of all open windows on your Mac. Other additions were the ability to add, remove or modify image location data and to convert PSD files and others to HEIC, JPEG, JPEG-XL, PDF, PNG, WebP or TIFF.

There are also a series of filters that can now be applied to photos, a feature to automatically straighten photos with Auto Level mode, as well as a function to recognize text in images and, therefore, filter them using JavaScript or another tool of the app.

Regarding automations, in addition to support for Shortcuts, there is the possibility of running a new flow whenever an image is copied to the clipboard or of running it within a certain period of time. Also included were new samples in the app documentation.

Retrobatch 2 is compatible with macOS 12 or newer on both Macs with Apple Silicon or Intel processors. He costs US$20 in the regular version and US$40 (US$25 for those who already have the first version) or R$130 annually in the App Store in the Pro version. There is a 7-day free trial period.
