The manager of a restaurant in Sainte-Marie, on the island of Reunion, is at great risk after a serious incident which occurred on April 24 in his establishment. At a table with their 8-year-old son, customers ordered him a water mint. The waiters then brought the syrup to the child, along with a bottle of water. The tragedy is that this container actually contained strong alcohol: vodka or rum. Despite this, the little client drank all his glass through a straw, witnesses say.

The child then became unwell before falling into a coma, reports CNews. At the Saint-Denis University Hospital, where the young boy was rushed to, analyzes revealed that he had a level of more than 2 grams of alcohol in his blood. For an adult, that’s a lot. For a child, such alcohol consumption can be fatal.

Fortunately, the child was able to leave the hospital the next day, after spending four hours in a coma. His parents immediately filed a complaint. Auditioned, the waiters and the restaurant manager pleaded confusion. The latter was summoned before the Correctional Court of Saint-Denis to answer for acts of involuntary injuries.
