Starting Wednesday, Tim Hortons customers will once again be able to bring their reusable cup to the restaurant and drive-thru.
The chain had withdrawn this measure two years ago because of the pandemic of COVID-19.
In addition, customers will receive a 10 cent discount on their drink if they bring their cup and will be able, for the first time, to be served a cold drink.
The restaurant chain aims to reduce the number of single-use cups used and hopes to exceed the milestone of nearly 15 million hot drinks served in reusable cups in 2019.
“We were looking forward to accepting reusable cups in our restaurants again, and we worked hard with Tim Hortons owners to make sure the procedure was safe,” said Paul Yang, senior director of innovation and sustainability at Tim Hortons, Monday.
“Now, since we can also serve cold drinks in the reusable guest cup, we have an opportunity to further reduce our use of single-use cups,” Yang added.
In addition, Tim Hortons guests will in the future be able to pre-order using the mobile app and notify the restaurant that they are bringing their own reusable cup, which must have a secure lid to drive-thru.
