With these new works, the museum’s collection swelled by approximately twenty percent. For the rest, what makes it successful has been preserved: the intimate atmosphere, and the chronological and thematic route for example. No revolution therefore, but rather a refresh, rather necessary after fourteen years of opening and four million visitors.
“We also wanted to take advantage of it to modernize the museum“, explains Sara Lammens, interim director of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts. “This is why we carried out a complete overhaul of the lighting. It’s now 100% LED, and it’s also another lighting method. If it was previously focused on the works, we are now more focused on ambient lighting. But which perhaps even better highlights the pieces…“.
Total cost of renovations: 450 million euros.
