“Revenge tomorrow”: Gaspard Proust, enfant terrible at the theater

After many postponements, especially after Daniel Russo’s injury during rehearsals, Gaspard Proust finally launched on the boards of the Anthony Theater (Paris Xe) in “Tomorrow the revenge”, a gritty and tailor-made comedy by Sébastien Thiéry, whose universe fits well with his personality and his acid humor. He is Mathieu, in his forties, who returns to his elderly parents in the middle of the night, wakes them up to make incoherent remarks.

Drenched from head to toe, carrying a rucksack full of rocks, he appears nervous, tense, blinking nonstop, hurling insults at his father, accusing him of waking him up by throwing a basin of water in the face… From the outset, the mother defends the son, when the father defends himself as best he can, then submits to his wife who never stops snubbing him. The son leads the game, she follows, the father cashes pitifully.

Settlement and manipulation

At first glance, their son seems disturbed, he who no longer has any memory, not even that of having left home fifteen years ago… He asks for his things, his bag to go to school… For not to rush him, his parents decide to follow him in his delirium. But how far to go? This is one of the questions that arises as the family reunion slowly turns to settling scores.

As often with Sébastien Thiéry, a part of mystery hovers over the situation, the characters who frolic in this plot like mice in a laboratory. The author loves to confuse us, we admit being fooled each time with pleasure. Here again, a strange game is being played out before us, if not a role-playing game, the border is tenuous and the manipulation is not far away.

The subject is lively, sometimes violent, and will leave few people indifferent. Outraged at times, we often laugh out loud at this human and pungent comedy that can divide. And leave a taste of “all that for that”. We nevertheless appreciate the proposed game, Brigitte Catillon sovereign, Jean-Luc Moreau good man, Proust, finally, lively and alert, finally quite solid.
