THE FILM Godzilla
This Monsterverse from Legendary Pictures highlights the Godzilla vs. Kong megafight, with a new adventure that pits the mighty Kong and Godzilla’s evolution against a massive, hidden threat that challenges their and humanity’s existence.
The film Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire delves further into the history of the Titans and their origins, as well as their relationship to Skull Island, Kong, and the Iwi tribe.

If summed up in one word, this film is about “wrestling!”
Both Godzilla and Kong show their strength and ferocity in every fight, producing tense and adrenaline-filled moments. Although also with light humor that accompanies it, such as when Kong has a toothache and has to be replaced with a denture by Doctor Trapper (Dan Stevens).
In this film, Godzilla and Kong unite again, to fight together against fellow titans who are on the other side.

Kong, who longs to live with his family, instead finds the most powerful enemy in Hollow Earth, Skar King. Skar King, who runs a tyrannical government over other Kongs in Hollow Earth, also ‘disturbs’ the lives of the Iwi tribe, a tribe also on Skull Island who live side by side with the Kongs. The Iwi sent signals to the surface, where humans lived.
On the other hand, Godzilla, who also lives on the surface of the Earth, also feels this signal which ultimately makes him carry out brutal actions. The signal was not only felt by Godzilla but also Jia (Kaylee Hottle), a child from the Iwi tribe on Skull Island who lives with researcher Ilene Andrews (Rebecca Hall).
The world building presented in this film is also interesting. Introducing the new world of Hollow Earth, a place filled with mystery and extraordinary natural beauty.

This new world opens up opportunities for new stories in the future of the Monsterverse. The super brutal battle between Kong, assisted by Godzilla, against Skar King, takes place in Hollow Earth. Seeing Kong and Godzilla unite against Skar King, assisted by Mothra.
One of the most unfortunate things is the lack of strong human characterization. The human characters feel like they’re just extras and don’t have an important role in the story.
The presence of the native Iwi tribe is depicted symbolically without providing any depth to their character and life. For example, body gestures, rituals and costume designs still feel like make-up.
