Revised Domestic Labor Law in Saudi Arabia: Workers’ and Employers’ Rights and Termination Conditions

According to the revised domestic labor law in Saudi Arabia, the worker and the employer can terminate the contract unilaterally in some cases, the Ministry of Labor said.

According to the domestic work regulations recently approved by the Saudi Ministry of Human Resources, the regulatory authority stated that the worker can terminate the contract in five situations.

The employee has the right to terminate the contract if the employer does not fulfill the obligations under the contract, if he is subjected to violent attacks or sexual and immoral behavior by the employer or his family members, if he is forced to work in a way that is dangerous to the health or body of the employee, or if the employer sells or rents his services to someone else.

But the contract between the employer and the worker can be terminated in six stages. These include failure of the worker to perform work as per the contract, acts of the worker which are proved by the authority to cause financial loss to the owner, attack the owner and family members etc.

The contract should be in a language understood by both parties. Otherwise, the new labor law also stipulates that it should be translated into the required language.
