Kotur: Volleyball enthusiasts in Kotur are trying to bring back the Jijo Sports Club of Kotur to its former glory.
Volleyball training started once more under the leadership of Jijo Sports Club. Former M.E.G. Volleyball star and coach Balakrishnan’s deep support is behind making Jijo Volley Academy a reality once more. Now around 35 children are training under coach Balakrishnan every day in the morning and evening.
Jijo Sports Club of Kotoor was a volleyball club that contributed many athletes to the country. Many players who played for the state and district teams also started here. Many teams like KSEB, Services, Prime Volley (Calicut Heroes) have players from here. Volleyball training has started here once more.
The fact that two children from here were selected in the sports division selection held last month is giving impetus to this initiative. The services provided by the volleyball loving locals and parents for ground maintenance and other activities are also huge. The construction of a roof for the ground so that the camp does not stop due to rain was also the result of everyone’s unity.
Organizers say that only if the state government allocates necessary funds for the continuation of the volleyball academy in Kotur, the new generation of players can be molded properly.
