The national leader of the PRI, Alejandro Moreno, described President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s recall referendum as a mockery, since Morena dedicated herself to turning the process on its head and perverting its democratic purpose.
“The first revocation of the mandate that Mexico has had has just concluded, it could have been a historic event of participatory democracy, unfortunately Morena turned it into a joke,” Moreno declared in a video broadcast through his social networks.
He stressed that the PRI is not against the revocation of the mandate, since one of its fundamental principles is democracy and they “unconditionally” support citizen participation, but what happened today was not an exercise in citizen participation.
“What Morena did was turn her head and pervert the purpose of a democratic process, and for what? To satisfy her own ego and continue deceiving Mexicans.”
“Morena requested that the revocation be carried out, but not so that it was a revocation, but rather a ratification. They collected the signatures, they promoted it even from the highest levels of the government, violating the law, and they mobilized their militants to vote,” denounced the PRI leader.

Alejandro Moreno explained that the original purpose of the revocation of the mandate was for citizens who were dissatisfied with an official to obtain the support of other citizens to request that he be removed from his post, in such a way that it would be a tool available to citizens and not for the parties and for those in power.
“In the PRI we do not criticize those who participated in today’s consultation, but we do question that Morena has promoted unnecessary spending that no citizen was asking for, especially with the economy stagnant, inflation at its peak and the country falling apart.” .
“Is this really what Mexico needed? No, compañeras and compañeros, Mexico needed results, solutions, that people have a better quality of life, not distracting spectacles, not this mockery and this farce that they want to make all citizens the object of,” Moreno reproached.
