Revolut confirms app is working fully after technical issue

Sign-in services on the digital banking platform Revolut were partially unavailable this afternoon as some customers encountered difficulties entering their credentials and found themselves logged out of the application. Users took to social media to report the disruptions while millions in Ireland use the platform for day-to-day banking, transfers, and card payments.

Revolut confirmed that the app is now working fully for those affected, stating that the problem was quickly identified and resolved.

App Outage and Resolution Details

According to the system status page on Revolut’s website, sign-in services were briefly classified as partially unavailable. In an official statement, the neobank addressed the incident:

We experienced a short technical issue with our app this afternoon that meant some customers were unable to log in. The issue was quickly identified and has now been fixed, and the app is working fully for those affected. Most of our customers were unaffected, and all our customers’ money and data are safe. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Recent Service Disruptions and Security Incidents

Last week, Revolut was out of action for a more prolonged period of time, with customers unable to make transfers or payments due to an outage at Google Cloud. That earlier network disruption was linked to a power outage at a Google Cloud data centre in London, which caused significant network disruptions and prompted announcements from supermarkets in Ireland warning shoppers that they might be unable to pay using Revolut.

Just over a month ago on 14 September, the company disclosed that criminals had accessed copies of passports, driving licences, dates of birth, home addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers belonging to some of its customers. Ten days later, Revolut customers in Ireland were notified that they were also impacted by a separate security incident at a third-party provider, US broker DriveWealth, involving unauthorised access to historical personal data.

Unanswered Questions Regarding Prior Breaches

The company has not yet disclosed how many people were affected by the 14 September breach, nor has it specified where the impacted individuals live.
