Revolutionizing Thought-Controlled Computers: Neuralink vs. NeuCyber Array

Elon Musk is not the only one trying to teach people how to use computers and mechanisms using the power of thought. Specialists from the Middle Kingdom are now solving a similar problem.

Neuralink recently implanted the Telephaty chip in the first person paralyzed from the shoulders down. Thanks to the chip, the patient can now play computer games with the power of his thoughts, without forgetting to control the computer’s operating system. And even if the revolution is still far away, the development of the company has at least made it possible for a paralyzed person to spend their free time more easily and in a more diversified way. The company does not want to stop there: it plans not only to help people suffering from Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s diseases, but also to create symbiosis of man and artificial intelligencewhat Elon Musk let slip.

Chinese specialists are now solving a similar problem, who developed the interface “brain machine” NeuCyber Array BMI. They implanted it in a monkey. At the Zhongguancun 2024 event, dedicated to innovation in science and technology, Beijing Xinzhida Neurotechnology showed a video of a monkey using the power of thought to control a robotic arm. After several attempts, the monkey managed to pick up a strawberry in its robotic hand.

Basis of IMC NeuCyber Array

Like the Telephaty chip, the Chinese development captures and deciphers electrical signals from the brain, converting them into specific actions. The NeuCyber Array system includes three main components: flexible electrodes, a system for collecting signals from neurons, and a generative algorithm for decoding the signals. The chip is installed in the brain in a minimally invasive way and, based on incoming impulses from the brain, allows both current manipulations and prediction of future actions.

Is this all safe? If we talk about Neuralink’s brain chip, then before it was implanted in a person, two experimental monkeys died during the company’s research. This is why the chip could not be tested on humans for a long time. At the same time, the Chinese company claims that their development is more flexible and safer, which reduces discomfort and possible damage to brain tissue. However, no one guarantees 100% the absence of negative consequences, and no one now intends to cancel the development of technology.

Meanwhile in China watch a humanoid robot capable of sucking and opening a bottle with a corkscrew.
