Revolutionizing Type 2 Diabetes Treatment: Visualizing Diversity and Predicting Outcomes

The fact that the different forms and risks of type 2 diabetes are easily illustrated, which can also be discussed with patients, shows added value in daily practice.

“These research results could therefore also find their way into everyday practice,” says Prof. Robert Wagner, who led the study at the DDZ and is deputy director of the Clinic for Endocrinology and Diabetology at the University Hospital Düsseldorf. “The results of the study have the potential to change the way we understand and treat type 2 diabetes. There is already an online tool that can be used to detect and understand the biological heterogeneity of type 2 diabetes and is easy to use,” says Wagner. This has the potential to serve as a template for the development of more precise therapeutic approaches.

The algorithm clearly visualizes the diversity of type 2 diabetes and the variability of the course of diabetes. It can be accessed and used at the following link: https://atn-uod2018.shinyapps.io/Prediction_diabetes_outcome_18082021/
