As of November 8, 174 cases of community-acquired pneumonia were registered in the region, which is 30 cases more than the week before. 99 people are hospitalized.

Should I worry?

In response to a request from Myslo, the regional Ministry of Health explained that the increase in the incidence of community-acquired pneumonia coincides with the seasonal increase in the level of ARVI. Epidemiological studies show that infections peak in October–December, reach a maximum in January–April, and decline in May–June.

This season differs from previous ones in that all Covid restrictions have been lifted. Respiratory viruses resume active circulation and often strive to “catch up.”

“This year is dangerous because respiratory viruses have not actively circulated since 2020 and the immune memory to closely related strains of various viruses that the body has encountered before has weakened,” the Ministry of Health emphasized.

Pneumonia is insidious in that its symptoms are easily confused with a regular ARVI. The disease develops rapidly and complications can be fatal. At risk: people with weakened immune systems, young children, pregnant women, the elderly, people with excess body weight, respiratory diseases and endocrine pathologies. They can get seriously ill in any season.

Vaccination still the best way to protect yourself

During the epidemic season of influenza and ARVI, the risk of pneumonia increases, so it is important to get vaccinated against influenza and pneumococcal infections in advance. As noted by the Ministry of Health, both vaccinations can be done at the same time:

— Anyone can get a flu shot at their local clinic. You can sign up at the reception desk, on the State Services portal and the Doctor71 website. You can get vaccinated without an appointment at the Gostiny Dvor shopping center (daily from 14.00 to 19.00), the My Documents MFC on the street. Demonstrations, 26-b (daily from 11.00 to 19.00). Before vaccination, the patient will be examined by a doctor or paramedic.
