Whatever the means of transport, all prices have gone up. As the summer holidays begin, many French people have chosen to make sacrifices, on food, for example, or simply on the duration of their trip.

The price of a good swim in the sea or a walk in the mountains will be higher this summer. Between transport, vehicles, trains, planes, the holiday budget is getting heavier. It starts right from the start, for those who take their car. First break on a motorway service area for the Payage family, which is going down near Argelès-sur-Mer for the third consecutive summer. The budget is no longer the same. “For the road, we are at least 200 euros. Last year, it was around 150 euros”, explains Guillaume, the father of the family. With these higher prices, some save money elsewhere, on food in particular, by preparing.

Others prefer the rail to the road to leave. The train is more comfortable for some, but not necessarily for the budget, with 8% increase in tickets in one year. One in two French people plans to reduce their stay by one week this summer.
