Rising Mosquito Population Expected with Recent Rainfall: Expert Warns of Potential Increase in coming Weeks

It was very dry at the start of the summer. An environment not conducive to the proliferation of mosquitoes whose larvae need humidity to develop. However, the storms of the last few days have changed the situation.

“This weekend, the females were out,” points out Rudy Caparros Megido, doctor of entomology at Agro-Bio Tech in Gembloux, to our colleagues at Sudinfo. “With the rain we just had, we can expect to see the mosquito population increase over the next two weeks,” he explains.

The expert points out, however, that mosquitoes live “on average only 3 weeks”. We must therefore cross our fingers so that new rains do not come to restart the process.
