Rising Murder Rates in Kosovo: Efforts to Combat and Prevent Crimes

2023-08-09 18:58:00

In Kosovo, the number of murders is increasing drastically. Only on Monday was the Lucerne garage owner Anton P. presumably shot by his brother-in-law Tush F.

These are not isolated cases: in late 2022, two women were killed in Pristina in just one week. In both cases, their husbands are suspects, local media reports.

The contract killing of a local, in which the client paid the equivalent of around 100,000 francs, also made headlines.

The police are now starting the “Strike” action plan, as reported by the Kosovan portal “Gazeta Express”. This is to stop the killing once and for all. Among other things, patrols will be strengthened, especially in urban areas.

The action will be coordinated with the local judicial authorities. The police are also asking citizens for help: they should report any signs of crime promptly. All information and tips from the population would be treated by the police.

Police checks on people and vehicles are also to be carried out more frequently. Prohibited items, especially weapons and other potentially lethal items, should be confiscated.
