WASHINGTON, May 19 (Xinhua) — Nearly 110,000 Americans died of drug overdoses in 2022, according to data released Wednesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
2022 was the deadliest year on record for overdoses, which claimed the lives of some 109,680 people, according to CDC figures.
The number of overdose deaths in the United States has jumped during the COVID-19 pandemic. Deaths rose from 71,000 in 2019 to over 90,000 in 2020, before crossing the 100,000 mark in 2021 for the first time. END
