Rising Poverty Levels in Pakistan: World Bank’s Warning and Urgent Measures Needed

Karachi: The World Bank has warned Pakistan that poverty is rising. The number of poor in the country has increased to 39.4 percent. Last year it was 34.2 percent. People whose daily income is less than $3.65 are considered below the poverty line. The World Bank report points out that approximately 9.5 crore people in the country are currently in poverty. The World Bank also suggested that Pakistan, which continues to be in economic crisis, should take urgent measures to avoid unnecessary expenses and achieve economic stability. The World Bank’s warning comes at a time when general elections will be held in the country early next year.
