Rodrigue Mitokpe, CEO of Ro Business Academy

“A lot of students think that when you go to school it’s to be employed and work in an office. We say no. This spirit has gone since the last century when the demand for employment was lower than the supply. Currently, the job market is saturated. Once you have taken the steps to become a student, you must seek to prepare yourself to enter active life. This requires us to dare to express our talents. Seek to identify the problems around us and find the idea of solving them. In a word, dare to create your own business. For this, you need to have an open mind, a coach, a mentor or a reference in your life. This is the idea that we want to share with our Guinean student brothers and sisters”.

For this Beninese, experience has shown him that most students fresh out of universities, that they are looking for themselves. They find it difficult to find employment, whereas they can create their own business and become their own boss.

“Young people need to know that with or without a diploma, you can succeed in life. You just have to believe in your abilities, rely on your efforts, seize opportunities and turn ideas into action,” the organizer said.

This message was well received by Jean Paul Taïwo, also a medical student and participant in the meeting.

“Going into business as a student is a hot topic. The idea is innovative and students should experiment with it to offer themselves great opportunities for success. By being a student, you can have an idea to undertake. From there, you can create your own business and set up your own business plan. Here we go. Before you finish your studies, you are your own employer. You earn an honest living and help create jobs and fight poverty. It’s better than finishing school, walking around with your diploma card looking for a job. For example, I created my business three years ago. I started from a simple observation. My compatriots complained of not eating well. I offered the meal from home, and they were very happy. That’s how I created Plus company with three subsidiaries, namely restau plus; more laundry and more shopping. Restau plus offers a menu shared between Guinea, Benin and Côte d’Ivoire, for example. For the laundry, we noticed that the students had problems doing their laundry. So we decided to pick up the clothes, wash them and bring them back. They really appreciated that and that’s how our pressing gained ground. There is also shopping plus, which offers clothes and shoes of all cuts and all ages,” explained Jean Paul Taïwo.

Dona Agoussou, student and boss of the Dona Marcus company, also appreciated the holding of this conference-debate.

“It’s a very good thing to learn at school. At the university level, every student must know that he is on the doorstep of working life. He must know what he wants. With this theme “How to start a business when you are still a student”, the student must easily choose between dependence and the spirit of free enterprise. For example, I am a student in 5th medical year and started my own business. I have a business specializing in baking and make-up. We train people in these areas.”

For this young lady, entrepreneurship is easy. Just dare, believe and take action. In a word, you have to respect the 3Ps, namely: passion, perseverance and patience.

Souleymane Bérété, better known as the first Bérété, one of the speakers, defines coaching as a profession of support or supervision. This professional coach advises students to undertake. He wants as a reference the wealthy Nigerian businessman, Aliko Dangote.

“Aliko Dangote said in one of his quotes that ‘a paid salary is not for being rich. The situation of employee keeps us in dependence, while everyone aspires to be rich. If you want to be in poverty, look for a job, but if you want to be rich, do business”, he said it and it is true”.

This well-known coach in the intellectual community and among Internet users, teacher-researcher and member of the National Commission for UNESCO in Guinea, is one of those who have succeeded in having entrepreneurship, as matter. And from the next academic year, students will be taught entrepreneurship, to enable them to break the ice and go to job creation instead of running after employment.
