Road Rage: Cyclist vs Motorist Incident Near Etterbeek Barracks

2023-12-20 08:16:00

Last Friday, an incident occurred between a cyclist and a motorist, not far from the Etterbeek barracks.

The cyclist, who was riding in the middle of the street, appeared to be preventing the motorist from passing him, which annoyed him. The latter honked his horn and, following passing the cyclist, stopped and attacked him: “I also cycle but I don’t ride in the middle of the street. That’s pretension,” said the motorist.

The cyclist continued his route and overtook the car. But as he slipped between the car and another parked on the side of the road, the cyclist hit the car of the disgruntled driver. The latter then got back into his car and passed the cyclist once more, appearing even more angry.

“You hit the car, sir,” he told him. To which the cyclist responds: “I didn’t do it on purpose, sir”. The motorist then loses his temper: “Now you’re not moving. Don’t move or I’ll run you over,” says the motorist.

The driver of another van called for calm. Finally it was a police patrol passing by who intervened to calm the situation.

Questioned by Bruzz, the cyclist denounced the situation: “I returned home in a state of shock. Many motorists are courteous, but individuals like this seem to be increasing in number, while most of these incidents remain under the radar. This is why I want to make this phenomenon more visible, to defend the idea that cycling in Brussels must remain pleasant,” he explains.
