Work began this Friday on the E17 motorway, following the formation of a chasm on the hard shoulder, between the Waregem and Deerlijk exit ramps, shortly before Kortrijk. According to Het Nieuwsblad, an old sewer that runs under the highway collapsed, creating a gaping hole on the surface.
The hard shoulder was immediately closed, and for safety reasons, the one on the right has also been since this Friday. It must indeed be ensured that other collapses are not to be feared. Until at least August 25, traffic will therefore be on a single lane on this section of the motorway, and the speed will be limited to 70 km/h.
