Rob de Nijs may leave the hospital on Wednesday. That confirms his manager. The 80-year-old singer ended up in hospital in ‘worrying condition’ almost two weeks ago, after experiencing breathing problems at home.

De Nijs will, according to the Telegraph ‘in a secret place’ to start his rehabilitation to continue working on his recovery. It is still unclear how long he will have to rehabilitate.

The artist was picked up by an ambulance on Thursday evening, April 20, after he became unwell in front of the television. His wife Henriëtte Koetschruiter first applied mouth-to-mouth resuscitation at home in Bennekom. Late in the evening, De Nijs recovered and was conscious, but later his condition deteriorated again, after which his family was asked to come to him. Meanwhile, on social media, many people shared photos of candles they lit for De Nijs, after his wife asked, in line with his famous song Put A Candle In Front Of Your Window. Last week, Henriëtte reported that her husband was ‘out of the danger zone’, but had to stay in hospital for a while.

De Nijs said goodbye as a singer last year after a career spanning more than six decades. The artist suffers from Parkinson’s, an incurable, progressive disease in which nerve cells in the brain die, so that movements, for example, are no longer properly controlled.
