Robert De Niro will star in a Netflix series for the very first time

In development since November, Zero Day will launch the cult actor in his very first appearance in this format.

After the series Tulsa King launching Sylvester Stallone at Paramount, then more recently Fubar which stars Arnold Schwarzenegger at Prime Video, Netflix reacted. And rather than go looking for yet another action movie star from the 1990s, the broadcaster has offered the services of one of the greatest cult actors of all time: Robert De Niro.

The star had previously tested the waters of streaming platforms, with the film by one of his favorite directors, Martin Scorsese, in The Irishman in 2019 and already for Netflix. The Oscar-winning actor for Raging Bull or The Godfather 2 will also wear the cap of co-producer.

My best Emmy

He will officiate in this role alongside great format specialists, first with Lesli Linka Glatter (Mad Men, Homeland), multi-award-winning at the Emmy Awards, but also Eric Newman (Narcos) et Noah Oppenheim (The Labyrinth) who will also be writing. According to the Netflix press release, the series will attempt to answer a topical question: “How do we find the truth in a world in crisis, which seems torn apart by forces beyond our control? “. A dive into the conspiratorial sphere, therefore, where it will be a question of disentangling fantasies and reality of the world around us.

A Pullitzer as inspiration

To lend credence to their creation, Oppenheim and Newman relied on Pullitzer Prize-winning journalist Michael S. Shmidt. About her, Oppenheim says her stories have given her sleepless nights, and that the show will bring to life “a thriller torn from reality”. In summary, between its iconic star, its experienced producers and screenwriters and the contribution of one of the greatest American journalists of the moment, Zero Day promises to be an event series. All that remains is to wait for Netflix to communicate its release date, and more details on the cast that will give the answer to the sacred monster.
