In the continuation of our file on prostate cancer, we attended an operation for prostate cancer.

A latest generation robot

Immersion in the operating room

On average, 6 robotic surgeries for prostatectomies are performed each week in Martinique. The robot improves the surgeon’s skills, as it allows better visualization of organs and nerves. Dissection of the prostate and vesicles is thus finer. As soon as a cancerous pathology is diagnosed, the operation performed is a radical removal of the prostate and the lymph nodes. The risk-benefit balance is negative, so there is no question of leaving the prostate.

A radical prostatectomy

In the operating room on Monday, the operation performed was a radical prostatectomy. The patient has a tumor in the prostate. The organ is then removed. Using a state-of-the-art surgical robot.
