Robotics enthusiasts have an appointment in Melun

Art of living

On February 18, around twenty teams will compete at L’Escale, in Melun, for the Junior French Robotics Cup. The best will participate in the grand national final next May.

Formerly called “Robotics Trophies”, the French Robotics Cup is an opportunity to take up scientific and technical challenges in a fun way that provides young people with knowledge of mechanics, electricity, IT and electronics. After several months of reflection and creation, the young competitors present and test their robots during original meetings on a given theme.

Organized by the association Planet Sciences Ile-de-Francethe regional event of the Junior French Robotics Cupon Saturday February 18 (11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.) at Melunwill allow young people aged 8 to 18 to work in teams and build themselves wire-guided robots that they will present that day.

Pastry in the spotlight

This year, to celebrate the 30e anniversary of this competitionthe chosen theme is pastry (“The cherry on the cake”). “The participants will have to present a robot created in recent months according to specifications. This wire-guided robot will have to be able to make a fake cake, from cardboard pucks, then serve it,” explains Matthieu Cwieczak, member of the Planète Sciences Île-de-France association. In total, 26 Ile-de-France teams will compete in the hope of winning one of the eight qualifying places for the grand national final scheduled for May in La Roche-sur-Yon, in Vendée. “The objective is an introduction to robotics, but the competitors will also be graded on their creativity, as well as their ability to work in a team,” adds Matthieu Cwieczak.

This day will also be an opportunity for robotics and science professionals to show their actions to the public and to discuss with budding inventors.
