Rocco Siffredi premieres series in Berlin: “I have never felt that he has abused anyone”

Berlin, February 22 (EFE).- About to turn 60, the porn actor and producer Rocco Siffredi has presented ‘Supersex’ at the Berlinale, a series about his life that, according to its creator, raises a reflection on ” the deconstruction of masculinity”, although the interpreter himself maintains that his point of view has not changed.

“I have never felt that he has abused anyone,” he said this Thursday in a meeting with a small group of journalists. “I have never thought that in the past I treated women badly and that now I have improved; perhaps, step by step, I have managed to understand them better, but I have never felt that I was doing something wrong.”

The series, created by Francesca Manieri (co-writer of ‘We are who we are’ by Luca Guadagnino) and starring Alessandro Borghi (‘Suburra’ and ‘The Eight Mountains’), will premiere on Netflix on March 6 and explores the personal and family drama of the actor, while showing the porn film industry with a pop and frivolous aesthetic, without peeking into its darker side.

For Manieri, who also co-wrote the script for ‘L’immensitá’ (2022), starring Penélope Cruz, the series’ contribution to the debate on gender equality is that it tries to delve into the concept of masculinity as a “cultural construct “.

“We ask a question about the state of the relationship between the masculine and the feminine, about how genders have been constructed, what level of toxicity there is in this relationship,” he said, “with the hope that the cultural paradigm will change and a new reunion between the male and female sexes is possible”.

Siffredi, whose real surname is Tano, published his memoirs in 2006 and in 2016 he premiered a documentary about his life at the Venice Film Festival. He says that 98% of what ‘Supersex’ tells is real, including a controversial scene he filmed years ago in which he inserted an actress’s head into a toilet during sex.

“I have often been described as a strong performer who has sometimes used violent sex, but this has never been a problem for me because they have always been scenes done consensually with the rest of the team,” he said.

He brags about having introduced this type of porn to the United States and says that it became fashionable because people wanted to see it. “It’s something I learned from girls, I didn’t learn it by myself, I didn’t wake up one morning and say, I’m going to have rough sex,” she said.

“The funny thing is that now women are like men in pornography, there are a lot of girls playing the strong role and people love it, it’s just a role,” she says.

The plot begins in his childhood in Ortona, a town on the east coast of Italy, within a humble family, a father who is bitter, violent and short on words, and a mother who does not pay him the attention he demands.

It is a childhood marked by marginality, poverty, environmental violence and a sexist and Catholic education. Her great male reference is her older half-brother (Adriano Giannini), who ends up in crime.

The discovery of sex comes during one of the most traumatic moments of his incipient adolescence, through a comic called ‘Supersex’.

“I was born for this,” says Siffredi when asked why he dedicated himself to porn. “I love this world and today I still think that I couldn’t do anything better than what I did.”

The series also shows his difficulties in combining sex and love. The actor has been married in real life for 30 years to a former porn actress with whom he has two children.

“Sex with love is the best,” he says, “but I can also do it without love, simply for enjoyment and something fun, my wife on the other hand can’t, she needs to have a connection.”

He says he has fallen in love three times in his life and that on one occasion he left everything for love, but later he regretted it. “I told myself that I would never leave my job for any girl in the world again, it was the first thing I warned my wife and that is the reason we are still together.”

As for turning 60, he says that he still doesn’t believe it, but that he feels calm and relaxed. “My sex life is still very active but it is under control, not like before.”

His wife has prepared the plan for him to celebrate. “He knows that I love gorillas and he is organizing a trip for her, with her and with my children to go see them in the Congo.”
