For the second time in six months, Iran has launched a massive missile attack on Israel. And like in April 2024, Tuesday’s attack followed the same pattern: The Iranians sent several hundred rockets at Israeli targets, virtually all of which were intercepted by Israeli air defenses. While Tehran might have been surprised by the effectiveness of Israel’s air defense in April, this time they knew that their action had to be primarily symbolic. But this may have been precisely the Iranian regime’s goal: to show solidarity with the Shiite militia after the humiliations Israel inflicted on its Lebanese ally Hezbollah.
