Carl Weathers, who played Apollo Creed in the first four Rocky films and starred in “Predator,” “The Mandalorian,” “Happy Gilmore” and dozens of other films and TV shows, died in his sleep on the night of Feb. 1, his family said. He was 76 years old. Withers outlived his two sons and left behind a wealth of powerful images to which he gave life throughout his long career.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Carl Weathers,” his family said in a statement. “He passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1, 2024. … Carl was an exceptional man who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, art and sports, he left an indelible mark and was recognized throughout the world and among various generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner and friend.”
He hasn’t had many jobs in the gaming industry, but he has done voice work for several games and even lent his appearance (and voice) to Jax from the paid DLC for Mortal Kombat 10.
