The Australian trio called Rocky’s Pride and Joy has been active since 2020. With All the Colours of Darkness They present their debut album, which is an excellent title for the music they deliver.

The band combines heavy, fat riffs with dark, occult lyrics. The Australians know how to take the appropriate calm to carry out their performance with a focused objectivity and without attempts to reinvent the genre. That’s why it works All the Colours of Darkness When you first listen to it, it’s dark and superficially a bit simple and sad.

Details in the dark

Only after listening several times do you discover details that make the album grow. Of course, the first thing that stands out among all the riffy doomers is the acoustically implemented one Lucifer’s Lullaby into the ear. Carried by the acoustic guitar and the two-part vocals, it seems almost delicate among the brutal doom numbers.

Typical of the album are simple but effective riffs paired with vocals that emerge from the background. The opener Red Altarthat you HERE You can listen to it is a very nice example of how simple but effective the songs are structured.

The relaxed, fuzzy riffs dominate the sound and stand on monstrous, bass-heavy legs. Rocky’s Pride And Joy They deliberately avoid excursions into faster areas and the guitar solos are effective, but anything but hasty.

The Extract of Evil

Of course, the debut also has its gems that stand out from the darkness. In addition to the already mentioned opener Red Altar with its text about bloody rituals under the full moon there are numbers like Crawl with the rapturous singing and Tunnel Vision with nice fuzzy guitar solos that are convincing.

The trio saved the climax for the end. More appropriate than with the trademark Pure Evil the last song couldn’t be named. The band reduces the musical specifications of the song Black Sabbath von Black Sabbath with the Black Sabbath Song End Of The Beginning into its own deadly reef construct. The song continually fights its way forward with leaden gravity, incorporates a perfect solo and eats itself deeper and deeper into the listener’s ears and heart. What a worthy finale, what a super song!

Conclusion
Rocky’s Pride and Joy dedicate themselves to All the Colours of Darkness Musically it’s riff-driven and lyrically it’s occult doom. The fuzzy riffs, the fat rhythms and the distant, poisonous vocals culminate in the oversong Pure Evilwhich gives us hope for great future visions for the band. 7,5 / 10
