Barcelona confirmed the signing in a deal worth £65.4m according to Sky Sports, while reports cited fees in the region of £65m according to the BBC and 76.5 million euros according to India Today. Prior to the agreement, Manchester City rejected initial bids from Barcelona, including offers of £40m and £55m according to Sky Sports.
The 30-year-old midfielder arrives in the Catalan capital after spending seven seasons at Manchester City according to the BBC, returning to Spanish football for the first time since leaving Atletico Madrid in 2019 according to the BBC. Before choosing Barcelona, Rodri was reported to be close to joining Real Madrid, though he ultimately opted for their arch-rivals Thedailystar.
Seven Trophy-Laden Seasons at the Etihad Stadium
During his seven-year stint at Manchester City, Rodri made 298 appearances and won 12 major honours according to the BBC. His major trophy haul included four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, three EFL Cups, and the Champions League in 2023 according to the BBC, where he scored the only goal in the final against Inter Milan according to India Today.
