Rogán-Szendrei Cecília and Szivek Norbert’s Wife Quit Bessenyei István’s Tennis Company’s Supervisory Board

Rogán-Szendrei Cecília Ágnes, Mészáros Dániel and Szivek Réka have all resigned from the supervisory board of the Excellent Game Mozgásakadémia és Sportcentrum Közhasznú Nonprofit Kft., the company that operates the Városmajor-based Budapest Tenisz Centrum in Budapest. All three left with effect from June 1, according to reporting corroborated by hvg.hu.

The exits matter because of who is leaving and who owns the company. Excellent Game belongs to Bessenyei István, a businessman known from the earlier Fidesz-led governments as a part-owner and leader of the Valton-Sec security firm, which won state contracts worth billions, and as the husband of tabloid personality Sarka Kata. Two of the departing board members are married to figures at the center of recent Hungarian corruption cases: Rogán-Szendrei is the wife of Szendrei Dániel, and Szivek Réka is the wife of Szivek Norbert, the former head of the Hungarian National Asset Management who was arrested in September in the Volánbusz corruption affair.

Three seats emptied on the same day

The resignations were simultaneous, and all three took effect on June 1. Rogán-Szendrei had sat on the supervisory board since the 2019 ownership change at Excellent Game. Mészáros Dániel joined in 2020. Szivek Réka, formerly known as Bentzik Réka, had also been part of the body that oversees the company running the tennis center.

The company itself is a tenant, not an owner. The Városmajor tennis center belongs to MTK, and Excellent Game concluded a twenty-year lease and operating agreement with the sports club. Bessenyei bought the company in 2019 from Hamar Gábor and the European champion hammer thrower Gécsek Tibor, taking over the center’s operation. He holds part of the company’s shares personally and the rest through his own Tenisz Projekt Kft.

A ten-year web of shared ventures

The family ties to Bessenyei run deeper than a board seat. Rogán-Szendrei took over Bessenyei’s place in 2016 at Nakama & Partners, the advertising agency he shared with Sarka Kata. The two families also worked together in running the tennis center: in 2020, Rogán-Szendrei’s husband, Szendrei Dániel, became managing director of both Excellent Game and Tenisz Projekt.

Both spouses have tennis backgrounds.

Mészáros Dániel, the second departing member, was Szendrei’s earlier business partner: the two shared ownership of the Tromos Catering Kft. and the Bida Tanácsadó Kft. Mészáros also managed Rogán-Szendrei’s DCL Logisztika Kft., founded in 2021, and registered the Future Goal Kft., which deals with sports facility operation, at the tennis center’s address.

How Szivek Réka contradicted the government’s own line

Szivek Réka’s political history is the most charged part of the story. As Bentzik Réka, she was the state-owned MVM’s director responsible for communications and foreign relations, and in that role she had to explain why the state energy company gave 508 million forints to the Civil Összefogás Közhasznú Alapítvány, the foundation organizing the Békemenet rallies. In an interview with Origó at the height of the scandal, she said that all of MVM’s grants were approved by the National Communication Office, which falls under the Ministerial Cabinet Office led by Antal Rogán. In doing so — apparently unintentionally — she contradicted the government’s claim that the cabinet had no involvement in the grant. She left the MVM in the autumn of 2018.

Her husband, Szivek Norbert, is the former managing director of the Hungarian National Asset Management. He was arrested in September in the corruption case surrounding Volánbusz. In mid-October, the Budai Central District Court extended his detention by three months; according to the Metropolitan Court, the risk remained that he could make proof more difficult by influencing other suspects.

A new board, a new seat, and a capital raise

The replacement supervisory board was elected for indefinite terms. Its president is Budai László József, who previously led the Marcipán Tánc és Fitnesz Sportegyesület. The other two members are Gátai Róbert and Ruszó Rebeka. Gátai was previously the strategic director of the Acai Superfood Kft., the café venture of Sarka Kata and Rogán-Szendrei — though it is not known whether he still holds that title. The café itself has closed in the Hegyvidék Bevásárlóközpont. Ruszó Rebeka recently recruited a receptionist for the Budapest Tenisz Centrum in a public Facebook group, waiting for applications at an email address on her own name on the tennis center’s domain.

June brought more changes than the board. At the general meeting, the company moved its registered seat from Derék utca 2 in Buda to Szamos utca 2/C in District XII, where it had already had a registered branch. On July 30, the company raised capital: the registered capital grew from 3 million to 11.705 million forints. Tenisz Projekt covered the entire increase, handing over assets worth 8.705 million forints instead of cash — the contribution list included containers, lockers, court-maintenance equipment and training gear. Bessenyei did not take part personally, so his direct stake fell from 80 to 20.5 percent, while Tenisz Projekt’s rose from 20 to 79.5 percent.

The result: Excellent Game’s majority owner is now Bessenyei’s own company rather than the man himself, while the business as a whole remains in his ownership. At the general meeting deciding the capital raise, Szendrei represented both owners — as managing director for Tenisz Projekt and as proxy for Bessenyei. How Excellent Game and Tenisz Projekt performed last year is unknown: both companies have missed the statutory deadline for filing their annual reports.

Bessenyei is stepping back from company after company

The board resignations fit a wider pattern of reshuffling among Bessenyei, Sarka and Rogán-Szendrei.

Bessenyei’s own retreat continues. In May he gave up his stake in the AC News Kft., publisher of Acnews.hu and Pepita Magazin; in September he left the already-mentioned Valton-Sec. At the Mamut Power Crane Zrt., a construction-machinery rental company he quarter-owned, liquidation began barely a year after its founding. Szendrei Dániel also closed a short corporate chapter, selling his stake in the Birdhill Group property venture in late June, a few months after founding it.

Questions sent to the Excellent Game Kft. will be added to this article when the company answers.

The next dated markers on record are already in the file: the resignations effective June 1, the capital raise on July 30, the outstanding annual reports, and the pending answer from the company itself. Until those land, the new supervisory board of indefinite-term members, elected at the June general meeting, is the governing fact at the company behind the Városmajor tennis center.
