The controversial British rock musician Roger Waters has accused Israel of “exaggerating” the attack by the Islamist Hamas and “making up stories”. The Pink Floyd founder claimed in an interview with US journalist Glenn Greenwald on the program “System Update” that many of the victims of the attack were Israeli soldiers. “This is not a war crime.”

Waters’ first reaction when he heard about the attack was to wait and see “what happened.” The musician said he then asked himself why the Israelis didn’t see the attack coming. “That’s very strange.” When Greenwald asked whether Hamas’s devastating attack was justified, Waters evaded the question. «We don’t know what they did. But was resisting the occupation justified? Yes!”

In the worst massacre in Israel’s history, more than 1,400 people were killed on October 7th and the days after, including many women, children and young people.

The 80-year-old, who has been accused of anti-Semitism several times in the past, added that he was against any war crimes. However, he expressed doubts that this had even happened in Israel. “There may have been isolated cases,” Waters said. “Of course” he condemns the killing and kidnapping of civilians. “But the whole thing was totally blown up by the Israelis, who made up stories about the beheading of babies.” (DPA)
