Tuesday, a 15-year-old teenager was fatally stabbed in Romans-sur-Isère while interposing in an altercation. This Thursday, the case was reclassified as premeditated murder. The father, suspected of having organized an “expedition” at the origin of the tragedy, and his minor son went to the police in the evening, Valence prosecutor Laurent de Caigny said in a press release.
A few hours earlier, another son, aged 27 and suspected of being the author of the fatal stabbing, had also presented himself to the police, which brings the number in custody to four, one man suspected of having helped them flee having been arrested the day before.
“All the suspects” are “now arrested” and the investigation, first opened for “voluntary homicide”, continues “under the qualification of assassination, that is to say premeditated murder, a crime punished with a life sentence,” said the prosecutor.
According to his press release, the father is suspected of having organized “his family’s expedition” to the sensitive Monnaie district in search of a minor with whom his youngest son “had a violent disagreement and filmed” a few days earlier.
“He is suspected of having driven there with the first person in custody, his two sons,” explained Mr. de Caigny. Once their target was located, the father encouraged his younger brother to “correct” him, which triggered “an altercation with exchanges of blows”.

A teenage “spectator”, foreign both to this expedition and to the dispute, had intervened. The eldest son “came with a knife, took it out and struck a blow,” the magistrate further recounted.
“The father of the family with the first one in custody then ensured the escape of the entire family of attackers,” he said.
Transferred to hospital, the victim, an apprentice in a training center, was pronounced dead around 11:15 p.m. He was not known to the police or the courts.

“My son has nothing to do with it,” his father confirmed on RTL radio, describing “a nice guy” on an apprenticeship contract in the building industry. “He just wanted to separate them and suddenly the other stuck a knife,” he described. “It’s terrible, it’s too much for me.”
The Monnaie district had already found itself in the spotlight following the death of Thomas, a 16-year-old high school student who was fatally injured in November at the end of a village ball in Crépol (Drôme).
The investigation did not make it possible to identify the author of the stabbing which killed him. Some of those indicted for “intentional homicide by an organized gang” come from the Cité de la Monnaie.
The tragedy aroused strong emotion in the region and mobilized the ultra-right on the theme of security, sensitive neighborhoods and immigration.
The victim was “a completely ordinary young person”, she noted, deploring “the number of attacks which are carried out with knives”. “It’s becoming more and more common. And the news of recent times particularly attests to this,” she judged.
