Shortly after the statement was known, Barreras spoke about it through his Twitter account. The senator gave a piece of calm about his health and specified that he has a “small colon cancer.”

“He has treatment. It heals, if one is judicious. To Colombian families, I share two things that are useful. It is always good to have routine checkups. Thanks to that check, I have caught this at an early stage. The other thing is that cancer is curable. If you have a family member who is going through these circumstances, don’t worry, there is treatment, there is a cure for most cases,” the senator concluded.
