RTL Today – Explosion in diesel prices: “Madness” at Luxembourg’s service stations

Motorists rushed to petrol stations across the country after the announcement of the record increase in the price of diesel at midnight.

It was madness“, Friday in the Luxembourg service stations tell us several readers. They describe us “files interminables” who “were overflowing on the roads“. A situation that could be observed at the stations located at the borders but not only.

A reader confirms that the situation was “just as crazy” in Junglinster, in the center-east of the country on Friday evening. “The queue that formed ended up on the road to Luxembourg” she explains. A road known for its radars but also for being particularly accident-prone.

On Saturday morning, a resident of the municipality of Niederanven shared a video which confirmed that the situation was similar at the Senningerberg gas station.

The scene, filmed using a smartphone, shows motorists trying to force their way to access the pumps before it is “too late“. For his part, the motorist had simply come to get drinks and had to park “much further” and walk the way to access the station store.

The announcement of the explosion in the price of diesel (+18.5 cents) fell at 6 p.m. in the Luxembourg media. A raise “never seen“which raised the price of diesel above that of 95 unleaded gasoline.

The price of SP98 also increased by 9 cents overnight. Another factor that helps explain this “rush” to Luxembourg gas stations on Friday evening. The police have not yet found any offenses related to this fuel race.
