Former top chef Toine Hermsen passed away suddenly last Thursday. His partner recently announced this.
With his own restaurant Toine Hermsen, which was located on the Sint-Bernardusstraat in Maastricht, he first achieved 1 star and then 2 stars. Before that, he worked in star restaurant Juliana in Valkenburg. He was also the mentor of various top chefs such as Hans van Wolde, Servais Tielman and Margo Reuten.
Too heavy
In 2020, Hermsen opened a new restaurant on the outskirts of Maastricht that was only open a few days a week. In 2023, he stopped doing this because it became too physically demanding for him. Hermsen was ill and died at the age of 70.
