Rugby: death of André Boniface, legend of the French XV, at the age of 89

French rugby loses one of its icons, André Boniface. The Landais died this Monday, April 8 at the age of 89.

André Boniface, legend of French rugby, died this Monday, April 8 at the age of 89, in Hossegor. Born in Landes, in Montfort en Chalosse, Boniface never left his department during his rugby career, which began in Dax in 1951, and ended in 1972 at Stade Montois, the club of his life which he had joined since 1952, with whom he was French champion in 1963 and winner of the Yves-du-Manoir challenge in 1960, 1961 and 1962.

A distinguished three-quarter center, André Boniface was also a legend of the French XV, with whom he had 48 caps and won four Five Nations Tournaments in 1954, 1955, 1959 and 1962.
